Peace in the Storm

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

Bible Verse

“Then he got into the boat and his disciples followed him. Suddenly a furious storm came up on the lake, so that the waves swept over the boat. But Jesus was sleeping. The disciples went and woke him, saying, ‘Lord, save us! We’re going to drown!’

“He replied, ‘You of little faith, why are you so afraid?’ Then he got up and rebuked the winds and the waves, and it was completely calm.

“The men were amazed and asked, ‘What kind of man is this? Even the winds and the waves obey him!'” — Matthew 8:23-27 (NIV)

Reflection

I have never slept through a tornado watch until last night. We don’t get many tornadoes where I live, but when they do come through, they scare me. I live on a second-floor apartment. No basement, not even a ground floor.

Behold

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

Be still and know that He is God.

Every day surrender and sit quietly in God’s presence.

He is the Prince of Peace.

Offer your heart to God and receive His peace in every part of you.

Let God fill you with His presence and His peace throughout the day and night.

Deep calls unto deep — let your spirit commune with God’s spirit every day.

A Prayer for Peace in Times of Struggle

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

Lord Jesus, life is hard sometimes. There are days, weeks, even months when nothing seems to go right. And that’s just at home, in my own life.

Then I look out in the world, and I see chaos and darkness creeping in. I see injustice, hatred, trauma, death, and pain. Everything seems upside down. My spirit longs for peace. Continue reading “A Prayer for Peace in Times of Struggle”

Jesus Is Resting

Lord Jesus, I love how You show me the importance of rest. You knew when to stop and just “be.”

When I read Your story, I can feel the midday heat, the roughness of the road on Your feet, the fatigue of the journey. You knew when it was time to rest and renew. You modeled that for me.

A Prayer in Winter

Winter Prayer

Winter seems hard, Lord.

It’s dark, it’s cold. Often harsh.

Everything feels a lot harder to do. Harder to take.

Small hurdles that don’t seem like much in the summertime feel burdensome in the colder time of year.

But I want to praise You in all things. You created the seasons and winter’s majestic beauty.

A Simple Goal

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

Bible Verse

“‘Abide in Me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in Me.’” — John 15:4 (NKJV)

Reflection

Winter is a time when we make plans for the rest of the year. Our slate seems as clean as freshly fallen snow. The crisp, cool air is refreshing and makes us feel that we can do things right this year.

Autumn Prayer

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

Lord, thank You for the beauty of the autumn season. As I look at all the colors in the landscape, I am reminded what an amazing artist You are. Your beauty is beyond anything I can comprehend. But when I see the gorgeous hues of fall, I know You are so creative and You care deeply about Your creation.

The Joy Has Returned

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

I was feeling out of sorts. Exhausted, but worse. No sense of life. No desire to do anything. Just felt dead inside, like my life had come to a halt.

When thinking about something I might want to engage in, I kept saying things like, “I don’t know” and “I don’t care.” As someone who had always loved writing and teaching, I heard myself saying, “I have nothing more to say. There’s nothing I can or want to write or teach anyone. I’m done.”

I thought my recent vacation would help — and it did alleviate my exhaustion. But it didn’t change my lethargy, my lack of desire to do anything more with my life. When I returned home from my wonderful vacation time, I felt refreshed for sure. But inside, my pulse was still silent.
