Thanksgiving Prayer

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

At this time of Thanksgiving, Lord, we want to bless You with our lives, our thanks, our praise.

The Thanksgiving table reminds us of Your bountiful love and the blessings of Your presence with us.

Help us to stay mindful of Your goodness throughout the coming year.

God, we thank You for life, for relationship with You and those You have brought into our lives, for salvation, for the joy of being with You in every moment, and for the chance to always be growing and transforming to be more like Jesus.

We thank You, God, for all You provide. When we feel like we are lacking in provision, help us to focus on the abundance of all You have blessed us with. We cannot begin to count Your blessings.

Fill our hearts with praise and worship for You. Let us be joyful in our hearts just because You are with us. Help us to praise You even in difficult times. Let the joy of the Lord be our strength.

God, help us to enjoy this time of Thanksgiving, simply because we are so thankful for You. Tune our hearts to ring with thankfulness each and every day. We pray that through our thankful hearts, those around us will see Your goodness.

In Jesus’ name. Amen

Summer Solstice Sunrise

A guest post by Karen Castleberry . . .

“But for you who revere my name, the sun of righteousness will rise with healing in its rays. And you will go out and frolic like well-fed calves.” — Malachi 4:2 (NIV)

My mother-in-law, June, celebrated her 81st birthday on the summer solstice, June 20, 2020, the longest day of the year. We gathered her children and grandchildren at her home in celebration of her life. Continue reading “Summer Solstice Sunrise”

God in the Orchard

A guest post by Janet Eriksson . . .

One of my favorite parts of summer is spending time in the beautiful orchards in the countryside where I live. When I am surrounded by green orchard trees bending over with delicious fruit, leaves and branches dancing in a warm breeze, my spirit comes alive. I love sitting on a front porch swing eating a peach and listening to the song birds, as they sing their symphony to God. Continue reading “God in the Orchard”

Blanket in the Shade

Bible Verse

“The LORD your God in your midst, the Mighty One will save; He will rejoice over you with gladness, He will quiet you with His love, He will rejoice over you with singing.” — Zephaniah 3:17 (NKJV)

Reflection

I was exhausted and couldn’t rest. Too much work, too little time. Though I tried to deny it I could feel it: the flame of passion I felt toward my ministry work had grown to a wildfire that threatened to burn me out. I needed to rest. But how?

I took a day off but I was restless. A friend told me, “Take a blanket outside in the shade.” Continue reading “Blanket in the Shade”

The Potter’s Hand

A guest post by Karen Castleberry . . .

Bible Verse

“This is the word that came to Jeremiah from the Lord: ‘Go down to the potter’s house, and there I will give you my message.’ So I went down to the potter’s house, and I saw him working at the wheel. But the pot he was shaping from the clay was marred in his hands; so the potter formed it into another pot, shaping it as seemed best to him. Then the word of the Lord came to me. He said, ‘Can I not do with you, Israel, as this potter does?’ declares the Lord. ‘Like clay in the hand of the potter, so are you in my hand, Israel.'” — Jeremiah 18:1-6 NIV

Reflection

On the beautiful Soque river in the Appalachian Mountains of North Georgia sits an old grist mill that has been turned into a store that creates and sells pottery. Entering Mark of the Potter with a group of friends, I was greeted with an amazing assortment of art from the potter’s wheel. Most of the pottery was functional, some was ornamental, and other pieces were just downright fun to gaze upon. Potters used their hands to create each unique piece of art.
