I Love Dreams!

Have you ever had a dream where you were spending most of your time driving down the road but you were looking in the rearview mirror? What does that mean? It means you are spending most of your present life focused on your past. Is that God’s best for you? No.

The sole purpose of the cross and the blood of Jesus is so we don’t have to spend our life living in our past. God doesn’t want us to forget our past — out of which our experience comes — but He certainly doesn’t want us dwelling on the past. So, He may give you a dream in which you are driving down the road but are constantly staring at your rearview mirror.

And Lord forbid if you have folks in your back seat while you’re driving down the road staring in your rearview mirror. That usually means you’re dragging folks from your past into your present and your future. What a waste!

I don’t know about you, but I have just about all I can deal with just staying in the present. And that’s what God’s Word tells us to do: (Matthew 6:34) “So do not worry or be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will have worries and anxieties of its own. Sufficient for each day is its own trouble.”

So whaddya do?

Leave your past and the people in your back seat at the cross.

I imagine I am walking to the cross and leaving them there. You may go back to your dream and invite them out of your back seat and walk them to the cross. God loves symbolism, so symbolically walk them to the cross.

You may think, They hurt me so badly I can never forgive them. That is precisely why they are in your back seat. You are carrying them around everywhere you go!

Are you exhausted, back pain, shoulder pain? Hmm. Maybe because you’re carrying another hundred pounder around with you. And for what? To punish them? It’s not working.

I heard once that unforgiveness is like drinking poison expecting it to hurt the other person. Not only that, but if you are walking in unforgiveness, you aren’t walking in the freedom that Christ promises you.

So, it’s time to clean our your car! Let ’em go. If they hurt you 20 years ago, why on God’s green earth do you want to be tied to them for 20 more? You don’t.

I want you to have dreams of driving and flying high. To do that, you gotta let go. So, what are you waiting for? Just do it. Get crazy, kick ’em out of the car in the Spirit. You’ll be surprised at the freedom you will feel. And you’ll quit having those crazy dreams of someone staring at you from your back seat!
